Many people think making major changes to your body and your health is simply about exercise and food. I am here to tell you major changes to your body and overall lifestyle require a shift in your mental focus. If your mind is not in the right place your body will never follow. I want to share 3 quick tips to help you elevate your mind and build some serious mental muscle.

Tip #1 – Fail Fast & Fail Forward

Failure is a part of life. On the road to any major goal or success, failure happens. My advice is fail fast and fail forward, meaning if you fail, do it right off the bat and learn from those initial failures.  There will be bumps along the road, but don’t let little things derail your ultimate goals. One bad meal doesn’t have to turn into a whole bad week of eating. Every training session won’t be your absolute best workout, but you must stay mentally strong and understand these things.

Being mentally tough while taking your hits and pushing through the roadblocks is key to ultimate success in fitness as well as life.

Tip #2 – Surround Yourself With Positive, Like-minded People

Jim Rohn once said, “We are the average of the five people we associate with the most.” In the case of health and fitness it’s right on point.  Think about fit, positive, fun people. They tend to hangout and associate with other fit, positive and fun people and the same goes for negative, out-of-shape folks. Negative people can hold you back, drag you down, and delay your progress. Having a great, positive, supportive team of friends, family, and co-workers who encourage you will put you on the path to reaching your goals.  Having people around to pick you up when things get tough will give you the mental edge you need to make it through.

Tip #3 – Know Your Goals and How To Reach Them

Do you want to lose 20lbs? Do you want to drop a few dress sizes? Are you looking for that six-pack stomach or a perfect bikini body? Whatever the goal is, you need to know exactly what you want. The more specific the goals the better. With that being said, it’s not enough to just know what you want; you must know how to get it.  How long will it take? Do you need a coach?

Mapping out your path to your goals is crucial. A quick tip - start setting dates, taking before/after photos, tracking your measurements, and writing down your goals are all proven to improve your success rate and improve your state of mind.

All great goals, successes, and accomplishments were first achieved in the mind before they ever came to life.  Visually see yourself reaching your goals, stay focused, stay positive and work that mental muscle.
