I am going to kick it to you guys real here today, 100% from the heart. These are the 5 most common things I see average people do to literally kill their hopes, dreams, progress, and overall success in life.

You need to STOP doing these 5 things today so you can START making success mandatory in your life.

#1 YOU ARE STUCK IN THE PAST – Your past is not your potential, but often times many people keep living life in the rearview. It’s vital to forgive yourself for previous mistakes. We are all human and we all mess up, some of us more than others (including myself).

Mistakes are for learning. Instead of dwelling on things we can’t change, use them as real-life education. I think of my blunders in life, of which there are many, as simply learning on the job. For me, all my greatest successes are from my biggest and most dramatic failures. A truly great life is full of mistakes, issues, and problems, because those are things that change us, help us not only learn, but also grown into the most bad-ass version of ourselves.

#2 YOU ARE TRYING TO COMPETE WITH THE WORLD – Your life is a one horse race and the only person you are running against is YOU.

We have a saying on the walls of our gym that goes like this - “Compete with others, get bitter. Compete with yourself, get better.” It is 100% without a doubt true. You can’t worry about the guy or girl next door; you can only compete with yourself, measuring the old you vs. the new one. If you are the standard by which all is measured, and you are continually learning, progressing, and growing, you are well on your way to true success.

#3 – YOU ARE NOT LIVING THE LIFE YOU WANT – In a nutshell, you are living life based on what other people think or say about you. You can’t live your life worried about the expectations of others; your decisions in this life should NEVER revolve around impressing someone else.

Do you remember your own goals, your own hopes, and your own dreams? Often times, as we become adults, we forget them and start down a path living a life we never intended to. When you look in the mirror at the end of your life will you be able to say I LIVED the LIFE that I wanted to live, for me, on my terms, and the decisions I made where mine to make me happy?

#4 – YOU DECIDED WHO YOU WERE WHEN YOU WERE 15 yrs OLD – “YOUR STORY” I meet so many adults who tell me things like, “I not an athlete”, “I am not artistic”, “I am not outgoing” ,“I never do this”, “I am not good at that”. When did you decide that was your reality? When you were 10, 15, 18, 22 years old?

My point is, often times we tell ourselves a story at a very young age and we repeat this story over, and over, and over again, so much it becomes our reality “OUR STORY”. I will use myself as an example. I am a 100% introvert, quiet, hate being the center of attention, don’t enjoy large crowds, I don’t love public speaking; my real close friends know how much of a mutant I truly am.

But for many of you, you know me as a fitness personality, coach, author, athlete, public speaker. My days are spent in front of large groups of people, talking, coaching, and interacting with them on a higher energy level. In my free time I do public speaking events to large groups, and make endless videos where I am talking, speaking, and educating the world.

“MY STORY” for years and years was that I was a quiet introvert who hated speaking, but I soon realized my story, as true as it may be, was holding me back from being successful. I needed to start telling myself another story "YOU ARE AN AUTHOR, YOU ARE A PUBLIC SPEAKER, YOU ARE A COACH."

The story you told yourself at 15 can be re-told, re-written, and re-lived starting today and at any age. YOU have the power to change yourself and LIVE any story you want. Stop living inside the imaginary prison you placed yourself in so many years ago.

#5 YOU WANT IT TO BE EASY – I have written this before in a popular blog titled Life is Hard. No success, no goal, no achievement worth talking about came easy to anyone, ever! If you want to do anything of value in this life, or make even the smallest dent on the world, you need to focus on doing what is right, NOT what is easy. Hard is the road less traveled and easy street doesn’t lead to anything great.

The best thing you can do for yourself would be to research the 5 most successful people you know. Ask them about their journey from start to now and see how “EASY” it was for them. I think you will find the HARD WAY is ultimately the way to everything you ever wanted.

Take these 5 Tips, go out, and make success mandatory today.

The world is waiting for you to show it exactly what you can do and I will be waiting.
